“Don't Be Afraid of Heartache" is a story about people who formally continue to exist in the country.
It is the story of a generation whose hopes, like those of previous generations, are disappearing and being buried.
Everything and everyone pushes you to leave your homeland.
But is it possible to escape from your homeland?
From a place where you have achieved nothing, and your only hope is to free yourself from it?
For us, the creative team, this performance is part of the protest movement, as we had to work on it in parallel with the ongoing protests in Georgia, which we are part of. As a result, we continually revised our approach to the text and the form of the play.
We encountered obstacles and often doubted the relevance of staging performance in parallel with the trials of illegal prisoners... In the end, the text dictated the form itself.
We realized that in this story, the spectator/listener should have had their own journey. That is why we decided that the performance should be a synthesis of personal and collective experience.
The spectator/listener in the darkness of Evangelical-Baptist church will hear the story about people who formally continue to exist in the country and whose only hope is liberation from their homeland.
