David Doiashvili

Position: THEATRE DIRECTOR
Davit DoiaShvili, son of Teimuraz, was born in Tbilisi on October 7, 1971. His parents are: mother – Mimoza Soselia, and father – Teimuraz DoiaShvili, a critic. His sister, Manana DoiaShvili, is a playwright.

In 1994, he graduated from the Faculty of Drama Directing at the Georgian State Institute of Theatre (Mikheil Tumanishvili’s creative workshop). During his studies, he achieved notable success with his course and diploma works.

Immediately after graduating, he staged Ryūnosuke Akutagawa’s “Life of an Idiot” (1994) at the Theatre of Film Actors.

In 1995, D. DoiaShvili was invited to the Kote Marjanishvili Theatre, where he served as the chief director from 1998 to 2000.

Following successful international tours, DoiaShvili was invited to England, to the West Yorkshire Playhouse in London, and later to the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg.

From 1994 to 1997, Davit DoiaShvili was also engaged in teaching at the Theatre Institute.

The director consistently addresses socially relevant and sensitive issues. For example, Dato Turashvili’s “Generation Jeans” was staged at the Free Theatre in 2001 and received significant public attention.

In 2004, Davit DoiaShvili was appointed Artistic Director of the Vaso Abashidze State Theatre of Musical Comedy and Drama.
