About performance ;
The Other Gaze by Seeds (Mihalis & Christos Kalkanis) is a hybrid stage composition merging original music, narration, and Greek traditional song. Premiered at the 2025 Athens Epidaurus Festival, the work explores the tension between urban life and nature through two brothers returning to their roots. Combining double bass, clarinet, piano, and electronics with an actor-narrator, it creates a layered sonic dramaturgy. By weaving existential folk lyrics into contemporary soundscapes, the performance offers a profound reflection on memory and identity, inviting the audience to reconnect with what remains essential in the human condition.
Seeds, the duo of Mihalis and Christos Kalkanis, creates a hybrid European sound within contemporary composition, blending acoustic instruments, electronic media, and narrative elements. Their work redefines the relationship between sound, space, and listening, using music as an active force that engages with text and stage action. They have performed at major institutions and festivals, including the Athens Epidaurus Festival, EMST (National Museum of Contemporary Art), the National Gallery, and SNFCC, alongside international jazz and contemporary music platforms, establishing a distinct performative language
