About Performance:
“Pravda” is a satirical and absurdist reflection on Russia’s war in Ukraine. Propaganda and the creation of an enemy image have become increasingly relevant in Georgia as well. The play takes place in a radio studio. The backdrop to the broadcast is a war that has been declared by a dictator just moments before the program goes on air. The propagandists attempt to present their dictatorial state’s attack on another country as an act of self-defense and a victory. As the broadcast unfolds, the state gradually begins to ban questions, answers that are unacceptable to the regime, phrases, words, and eventually even individual letters. Within a short period of time, we witness the scale of catastrophe that propaganda and manipulation can bring about.

The play was first read as part of the New Drama Festival. It then premiered at Theatre on Atoneli. Following the theatre’s closure, the production moved to the City Theatre.
